As long as you go into it knowing it has Ferrari levels of maintenance, go for it.
![]() 03/31/2017 at 13:51 |

On a scale of 1-10? 40k.
![]() 03/31/2017 at 13:51 |

Budget several thousand for service annually. Or go for the 100k mile warranty the dealer says they offer.
![]() 03/31/2017 at 13:51 |

I saw plenty of these yesterday on cargurus for under $40K and low-ish miles.
2008 with 60k miles $31,500. I could haggle it to $28,000

It’s about as good of an idea as lighting your hair on fire and then trying to put it out with a sledgehammer.
![]() 03/31/2017 at 13:58 |

Personally, Maseratis do absolutely nothing for me. In every segment that they compete in, they’re the car that least interests me.
![]() 03/31/2017 at 13:58 |

Depends how fat your wallet is.
![]() 03/31/2017 at 14:01 |

I think if it were fat enough to sustain owning a Ferrari engine, I wouldn’t have to be looking at 40K Maseratis.
![]() 03/31/2017 at 14:01 |

That good, eh? So, you’re saying I should consider it.
![]() 03/31/2017 at 14:02 |

What I really want is the convertible, and those are a little harder to find.
![]() 03/31/2017 at 14:03 |
|
That’s fine. More for me!
![]() 03/31/2017 at 14:04 |

I’ve never bought an aftermarket warranty for anything in my life, but in this case, I think it would be advisable
![]() 03/31/2017 at 14:06 |
|
Damn that is an awesome looking car...
![]() 03/31/2017 at 14:06 |
|
Including the side budget for regular Prilosec.
![]() 03/31/2017 at 14:08 |
|
Isn’t it? If it were convertible, I might lose all reason and beg my wife to let me get it.
![]() 03/31/2017 at 14:08 |

I’ve always liked the GranTurimso, but aren’t transmission issues a fairly common thing with these though?
![]() 03/31/2017 at 14:09 |

I have no idea. Are they?
![]() 03/31/2017 at 14:10 |

Hahahahaha, I actually stole that joke from a newscaster from a few years ago back when gas cost a fortune his quote was:
“Gas prices; make you want to set your hair on fire and put it out with a sledgehammer”
![]() 03/31/2017 at 14:12 |

Best rims for that model too.
![]() 03/31/2017 at 14:12 |

You have to be careful with DuoSelect cars. They’re single-clutch automated manuals, and because of this they don’t like to inch forwards in traffic. A Maserati dealer can give you a computer report of estimated clutch material left, and I’d recommend it (even if it is pricey).
![]() 03/31/2017 at 14:22 |
|
I would avoid a Duoselect car if I could. May I suggest a ZF-transmission Quattroporte instead? No transmission headaches, a less expensive car, and it still has that great sound. Ones with clean history can be picked up for as little as $17k .
![]() 03/31/2017 at 14:24 |
|
The 2009 GT S is the one to get. It has the proper F1 transmission and the 4.7 L v8 is pretty reliable. The clutch will be a few thousand at a dealer, less at an indy. From what I hear, these are good cars and meant to be daily driven. There may be a few electrical quirks but that doesn’t make it unreliable and just adds to the ownership experience, IMO.

They are pretty.
![]() 03/31/2017 at 14:43 |

Good tip. Did not know that.
![]() 03/31/2017 at 14:44 |

You realize you’re just leading me further down this rabbit hole, right?
![]() 03/31/2017 at 14:45 |

And I believe in driving my cars every day. Thanks.

This isn’t a vote one way or another, but a thought I had. I’d be less inclined when shopping for a car to take on high maintenance costs for a car that’s also depreciating.
Any sense of the Maserati market?
I’d probably either want a car that’s a little higher maintenance but is bottomed out OR something that’s depreciating but I got newer and needs less love.
I don’t know where the maserati stands. But early Lotus Evoras and 997s are in that price range and have pretty much “bottomed out” so to speak; or a 2015ish 4 series convertible, while less exotic, would have a warranty still and probably be pretty problem free for another 4 years.
But also, the heart wants what the heart wants.
![]() 03/31/2017 at 14:49 |
|
And my heart wants a Maserati. Not that I’m buying one any time soon.
Depreciation isn’t such a big deal for me because I’m one of those that mates for life. If I bought this car, I’d daily it until it dies or I do.
![]() 03/31/2017 at 14:56 |
|
Wow, that looks like a steal. What’s the catch?
![]() 03/31/2017 at 14:58 |
|
They are cool cars and I think driving a car into the ground is a good reason not to worry about depreciation.
![]() 03/31/2017 at 15:10 |
|
If you can get it up on a lift and the steering rack doesn’t have any slight fluid leaks, there is no catch.

It’s a horrible idea, it’ll probably bankrupt you.
So what are you waiting for, buy It! It’s a V8 maserati convertible;
![]() 03/31/2017 at 15:36 |

Get behind me, Satan!
![]() 03/31/2017 at 15:47 |
|
Now, this is my style.
![]() 03/31/2017 at 15:50 |
|
I like your style. DFW Oppos unite — pick a car, let the rest of us go lowball the dealer, then you can swoop in for a good deal!
![]() 03/31/2017 at 15:56 |
|
Now that’s a good idea.
![]() 03/31/2017 at 16:22 |
|
Avoid that one, it’s got the duoselect transmission (ZF transmission = normal lever, duoselect = tiny t-handle and big e-brake).
![]() 03/31/2017 at 16:24 |
|
Oh, okay.
![]() 03/31/2017 at 16:29 |
|
Oooh, dark red interior .
![]() 03/31/2017 at 16:32 |
|
I like the interior. Problem is, I really need color on the exterior. I just can’t bring myself to do anything grayscale, and that severely limits my shopping. Maybe black exterior for just the right car, but not silver or white.
![]() 03/31/2017 at 16:36 |
|
I’d focus on finding a car with the right interior color, and then getting the exterior wrapped. That way you get paint chip protection, the color you like, and a resale friendly finish underneath. It’s usually only $2000 or so to do a Quattorporte.
![]() 03/31/2017 at 16:37 |
|
I’m really suspicious of wraps. If it gets chipped or scrapped, it’s done, right?
![]() 03/31/2017 at 16:40 |
|
It’s actually much harder to chip or scratch vinyl wrap than people think. My buddy’s 3M wrapped A5 took a rock to the bumper, and the wrap was totally fine after being washed despite the fog light being completely destroyed.
![]() 03/31/2017 at 16:48 |
|
Okay, worth keeping in mind.
![]() 03/31/2017 at 16:55 |
|
Wouldn’t a Quattroporte look great in 3M Black Rose Gloss?
![]() 03/31/2017 at 17:47 |
|
I like it, but somehow not for a Quattroporte.
![]() 03/31/2017 at 18:30 |
|
What about 3M Deep Blue Gloss?
![]() 03/31/2017 at 19:09 |
|
That’s more like it!
![]() 03/31/2017 at 22:13 |

OMG, dat noise!
![]() 03/31/2017 at 23:27 |

I just played that for my wife and explained to her that it’s pure sex. She laughed indulgently at me
*sigh*
![]() 03/31/2017 at 23:50 |

She might like the sound of this 767B more.

Alas, these things do nothing for her. I on the other hand...
